Regional Spatial Justice: Role of Urban Typologies Surrounding Core City in Kolkata Urban Agglomeration

 

 

This confeence paper utilizes qualitative questionnaire-based survey to collect primary data on the demographic profile and water consumption patterns of the population in South Bengal Region.

It further analyzes the morphological typologies and identifies the corresponding household water usage and their efficiency in the study areas. Thus, it identifies the typologies with the highest potential of sustainable future within the region and corresponding guidelines.

Overall, it bridges urban morphological studies with sustainable development, providing vital insights globally.

Changing Water Scenario and Urban Fractals in Peri-Urban Areas of South Bengal Region

In densely populated urban areas, rapid expansion, urban sprawl, and land-use conflicts alter morphological characteristics, impacting water usage. This study in West Bengal addresses these challenges, providing guidelines for environmentally-friendly urban planning, managing sprawl, and regulating spatial functions tied to economic activities and urban form.

The Metro Rail Transit System (MRTS) is integral to TOD, profoundly impacting urban development. This study analyzes MRTS history in KMC, focusing on two Kolkata metro stations within a 400-800 m radius. These findings offer valuable insights for urban planning and policy. Impact of Urban Morphology on Transportation Preferences in 
Fostering the Sustainable Development of Emerging Urban Centers in South Bengal

Urban form shapes human settlements, impacting transportation choices. High-density areas face reduced public transit availability due to increased costs. Indian cities face a research gap linking urban form and transport preferences. This study addresses the gap, focusing on South 24 Parganas. Results show that urban morphology outweighs demographic and socioeconomic factors in influencing transportation preferences.
